Remembrance day and events in November

Today is an important day in the U.K known as 'Remembrance day'. It is a memorial day for members of the armed forces who have died in the line of duty.

Remembrance Day is observed on 11 November to recall the end of hostilities of World War I on that date in 1918. Hostilities formally ended "at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month".

Traditionally people in the United Kingdom observe two minute's silence at 11:00 to commemorate the sacrifice made by the nation's soldiers.

Last week at Studio Cambridge we celebrated another day of remembrance on 5 November, Guy Fawkes Night.

Every year in Cambridge there is a large fireworks display on Midsummer Common and Studio Cambridge organises an annual visit to watch the show!

As you can see, it was an impressive display!

Midsummer Common was packed. Estimated attendance was 25,000!

Studio students illuminated by the warm glow of the fireworks.

Definitely scarf and hat weather on Bonfire Night!

More Studio students enjoying the festive atmosphere!

                                           What a spectacle!

Richard from Student Services watches on...

... at what is agreed by many to be the finest display yet!

Overall a great night was had by all! Many thanks to all who attended and especially to our students who helped take many of the pictures used for this blog. Maybe next year we'll be seeing you at the fireworks display?

Friendship Bracelet Making

in possibly the fiddliest task to date, the students definitely did better than I did at making some traditional friendship bracelets

After everyone chose their different coloured threads, and a quick demonstration, it was time to get on with some serious bracelet making.

Some were very pleased with their results....

Others less so.....
But I think they did some pretty fine work!

T Shirt Design!

This week the students got given a whole load of T Shirts, a whole load of fabric pens, and ended up with a bunch of fine looking garments!

First they grabbed their plain shirt.....
 Got set up.....
got their designs ready.....
Then got stuck in.

This T Shirt is indeed amazing.

Great turn out, and some none too shabby shirts to go with it!
