Decorate some cakes then dance yourself fit!

Hi everyone,
We've had an usual variety of activities that I'll try to cover in this one blog post!

First up we had a cupcake decoration session, which led to some really creative designs. Actually, I wouldn't want to eat some of these they looked so good! (It didn't actually stop me though, what can I say? Student services makes for hungry work).

One of our students, Markus, from Switzerland has been volunteering his services as a qualified Zumba instructor. We've had two sessions so far and are planning one a month until Markus leaves us in March.

To cap it all off, we made a visit to Oliver Cromwell's house in the historic Cambridgeshire city of Ely. Oliver Cromwell is a controversial figure in English history and was Lord Protector of England after he had our King executed! You can read more about him here, I also suggest looking into the whereabouts of his severed head, which is now located somewhere in the grounds of Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge.

Very interesting stuff for those of you who are interested in English history...

Well that's everything for now, check back next week for something a bit more festive!

-Richard

Fireworks!

As you may or may not know, there is an annual tradition in England known here as 'bonfire night' or 'Guy Fawkes night' every year on the 5th of November.

The tradition involves burning an effigy of one Guido Fawkes and letting off fireworks, you can read the history behind this here. I really suggest you give it a look as it will provide an insight into a peculiarly English tradition and learn an interesting story as you go.

Nearly every city and town in England celebrates this event and Cambridge is no exception, so on the 5th of November I took some students over to Midsummer common to check it out:

Halloween Party!

Sorry for the slight delay in updates, we have been experiencing some technical difficulties and normal service will resume immediately...

As promised, our Halloween Party took place on All Hallows' Eve as planned, there was a good turn out and some impressive costumes.

Some students even had their faces painted at the party with some impressive results as you can see!

We also had a visit from a mysterious zombie pirate... This could be the Ghost Pirate LeChuck of Monkey Island fame, but I probably shouldn't speculate.

Anyway, the music was loud, the dance floor was full and the food disappeared very quickly. I think it's safe to say a good time was had by everyone!

Check back next week for some photos and (hopefully) some video from the Annual Cambridge fireworks display!

Welcome to the new Studio Cambridge Blog!

Hi everyone and welcome to our brand new activities blog.

Some of you may remember our old blog over on Studio Online, we've now made the change to Blogger, which means you can subscribe to us using your email account for regular updates, like our posts on Facebook or tweet them on your Twitter account.

My name is Richard, I work on reception with Tom, we aim to post an update each week with the best pictures from each activity.

Things started to get spooky this week as we got closer to Halloween, some students made some Halloween themed bags...

Whilst others decorated some Halloween cookies...

I missed lunch that day and some kind students brought some cookies to reception, they were super delicious!

As it's Halloween today, the spooky theme continues, we will have a Halloween party in the cafe this evening from 7pm which you can sign up for in the usual place. Additionally, there will be pumpkin carving, also in the cafe, this afternoon from 3:15.

Look out for  the photos next week!

-Richard.
