The Zoology Museum

Last Friday saw a visit to the Museum of Zoology in Cambridge. A fascinating place with all manner of stuffed creatures and bare bones.

It certainly left the Jaruwan group open-mouthed with excitement.

While I was left with the feeling there was something sneaking up behind me.

As educational and intriguing as the animals in the display cases surely were, it didn't stop the students from striking poses for the camera. We are the past of the future, was perhaps the sentiment here.

One of the best things about studying at Studio is the chance to meet and make friends with people from all over the world. The Thai students in the picture above took this a step further, making a new horned buddy, who was looking decidedly thin.

Before we left, thoroughly enlightened, we paused to document the occasion. I still had a strange sense there was something behind me. But at least now I knew my owl parrots from my golden moles.

I think all involved would agree that we had a whale of a time.

Decoupage

On Thursday, in Cafe Studio, Marc Williams, of Student Services fame, led a storming session of decoupage.

The Jaruwan group showed up in force. Never have so many boxes been decorated with such enthusiasm.

While Studio legend, Pakin Santanan, cracked wise, his students fought a creative duel armed with only glue and tissue paper.

Not to be out done, Maria and Celine decorated their own boxes in exquisite fashion. "Artistic and practical," exclaimed a jubilant Marc. "What more could you want from a Studio activity."



Easter Weekend Trip to Oxford

On Easter Monday students took advantage of a day away from lessons to take a free trip to Oxford.

They braved the cold weather to marvel at the Radcliffe Camera, part of the Bodleian Library and an iconic symbol of Oxford.

They paused at the Hertford Bridge, or Oxford's Bridge of Sighs, particularly distinctive for arching over a road rather than a river. The chance to see Cambridge's Bridge of Sighs is fast approaching, with a punting trip this Thursday.

 Guy Trussel, Group Programmes Coordinator, shared his wisdom.

The trip concluded at Christchurch, the former college of a staggering thirteen British Prime Ministers, and location used in the filming of the dining hall in the Harry Potter films.

Farewell to Bobbio!

Last week we were joined by a lovely group of Italian students from the Bobbio group.

The group got involved in a whole range of activities and excursions and seemed to have a lot of fun while they were in Cambridge! 

In this post we're going to take a look at what the Bobbio group got up to on their guided tour of Cambridge.

Here we can see some of our students enjoying a giant's perspective of Cambridge while being given a tour by one of our local experts.

Now we can see the Bobbio students inside the world famous King's College Chapel. admiring the world famous painting 'The Adoration of the Magi' by Peter Paul Rubens. Behind them you can see a glimpse of the beautiful stained glass windows which adorn this iconic building.

There are plenty of stunning sights in Cambridge to take pictures of!

Studio Cambridge Pool Competition

Well well well, it looks like the guys you see in the pictures above were unable to beat Studio pool Champion Tom Dignum, or at least that's what he reckons.

Myself? I'm not so sure... Still, it was a good night all round and everyone got to show off their skills. But please, somebody, beat Tom soon - it's going to his head!

Hi everyone!
                   Welcome (or welcome back) to the Studio Blog. Last week we had a large group of Italian students who put on their own theatrical performances in Cafe Studio, you cna see pictures below from their production of Cinderella!

 

 

A quick note about activities this week, we have football tonight at the Kelsey Kerridge, that'll be kicking off at 1600. Tomorrow we have t-shirt design in the cafe at 15:30, then on Friday we have the movie This Means War at 13:30 in room 8 and a chance to go on a chauffeured punting trip at 14:00, which is well worth it! Meet outside the school for that one.

Valentines begins!

Hi everyone,
                   Welcome to another Studio blog. Our Valentine's themed activities kicked off yesterday with gift box decoupage. Students made romantically themed gift boxes and filled them with delicious chocolates for that special someone (or possibly themselves, any excuse to eat chocolate is fair game in my eyes):

This theme will continue this week with Valentine's card making on Thursday and a special Valentines post box will appear in reception tomorrow where you can anonymously leave a card for someone special...

Be sure to check out our romantically themed Friday Flicks starting with Crazy, Stupid, Love on the 15th followed by Date Night on the 22nd. Though before that we have some classic marshall arts action this Friday with Jackie Chan in Project A.
