Hi everyone!
                   Welcome (or welcome back) to the Studio Blog. Last week we had a large group of Italian students who put on their own theatrical performances in Cafe Studio, you cna see pictures below from their production of Cinderella!

 

 

A quick note about activities this week, we have football tonight at the Kelsey Kerridge, that'll be kicking off at 1600. Tomorrow we have t-shirt design in the cafe at 15:30, then on Friday we have the movie This Means War at 13:30 in room 8 and a chance to go on a chauffeured punting trip at 14:00, which is well worth it! Meet outside the school for that one.

Valentines begins!

Hi everyone,
                   Welcome to another Studio blog. Our Valentine's themed activities kicked off yesterday with gift box decoupage. Students made romantically themed gift boxes and filled them with delicious chocolates for that special someone (or possibly themselves, any excuse to eat chocolate is fair game in my eyes):

This theme will continue this week with Valentine's card making on Thursday and a special Valentines post box will appear in reception tomorrow where you can anonymously leave a card for someone special...

Be sure to check out our romantically themed Friday Flicks starting with Crazy, Stupid, Love on the 15th followed by Date Night on the 22nd. Though before that we have some classic marshall arts action this Friday with Jackie Chan in Project A.

Graffiti!

Hello again and welcome to another Studio Cambridge blog!

This week we tried our hands at some graffiti art, the results were pretty impressive, as you can see below:

 

Good stuff all round, just remember to keep on paper and off the walls... I think we'll be bringing this activity back again soon.

Watch out tonight as we'll be having a ghost tour of Cambridge, sign up in building five and meet outside King's College Chapel at 7pm,

Snow my word!

Sorry, that was a terrible pun. Still, it's another interesting nuance of the English language, so there's that.

As I'm sure you've realised this blog is about the snow currently enveloping the area, the snow that fell earlier in the week has now turned to ice and has made a lot of the roads and paths very treacherous. Please consider your route to school before you head out, especially if you cycle, it might be worth either walking or checking out the bus routes instead. Be sure to wrap up warm and wear big winter boots if you have any.

 

But don't let me take the fun out of it, get out there and make a snowman/woman/Dalek, hurtle down a hill on a home-made sled and chuck lumps of snow at each other, if you haven't already!

Activity round-up:

Tuesday - This afternoon at 15:30 we will have our Zumba activity in Cafe Studio with our qualified instructor Markus.

Wednesday - Weekly indoor football, 16:00 at Kelsey Kerridge sports centre.

Thursday - Clay Modelling, 15:30 in Cafe Studio. Come and test out your sculpture skills, make anything you like!

Friday - Fitzwilliam Museum Visit, meet at 14:00 outside the school to visit the best museum in the city, you can find more information here - definitely a must when in Cambridge.

The Friday Flick - Come to room 8 at 13:30 for a screening of the cop comedy 21 Jump Street, click here for the trailer.

International Party - This Friday evening 19:00 in Cafe Studio - Dancing, music, (soft) drinks and food, enough said!

The Cupcakes Return and the Dark Knight Rises!

Wow.

People like cupcakes these days. Judging from the turnout yesterday, people really like cupcakes these days:

 

So it looks like we'll be bringing that activity back soon, along with cookie decorating. Here are a few more pictures:

Keeping with the food theme, tomorrow is the ever popular Movie and Pizza night at the school, we'll be watching The Dark Knight Rises from 7pm, so be sure to sign up in building 5 if you want to attend.

For those of you who have just joined us, keep an eye out for the February activity schedule when we issue it in a couple of weeks, we'll be visiting King's College Chapel and going punting, both of which are essential activities when in Cambridge.

Happy New Year!

Welcome back to another year at Studio Cambridge!

2013 is going to be another big one, but before I get into that, did anyone see this suspiciously familiar Santa hanging around cafe studio at the end of last year? There's video evidence and everything:



                                   


I'm not really into conspiracy theories, but did you know that Santa and Studio activity expert / receptionist Tom Dignum have never been seen together in the same room?

I'm just throwing that out there...

If you're new to Studio and starting with us on Monday, you can find Tom and myself in reception, we can provide you with any help or information you need - just come in and see us.

Keep an eye out for the activities program for January which will be published on Monday, there's a lot going on including a movie and pizza night and a ghost walking tour: should be fun!

We'll look forward to seeing all our returning students in 2012 and meeting all of the new ones as well!

Decorate some cakes then dance yourself fit!

Hi everyone,
                   We've had an usual variety of activities that I'll try to cover in this one blog post!

First up we had a cupcake decoration session, which led to some really creative designs. Actually, I wouldn't want to eat some of these they looked so good! (It didn't actually stop me though, what can I say? Student services makes for hungry work).

One of our students, Markus, from Switzerland has been volunteering his services as a qualified Zumba instructor. We've had two sessions so far and are planning one a month until Markus leaves us in March.

To cap it all off, we made a visit to Oliver Cromwell's house in the historic Cambridgeshire city of Ely. Oliver Cromwell is a controversial figure in English history and was Lord Protector of England after he had our King executed! You can read more about him here, I also suggest looking into the whereabouts of his severed head, which is now located somewhere in the grounds of Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge.

Very interesting stuff for those of you who are interested in English history...
